Military School Vermont - NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The university will host the 2019 Association of Major Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMSCUS SMC) Conference September 8-10 in Burlington, Vermont and its campus in Northfield, Vermont.
50 guests are invited to the three-day event designed to provide information, lessons learned and build relationships among the administrators, staff and students of the Bicentennial Senior Military Colleges.

AMCSUS is an association of military schools from around the country. The SMC Conference was established by the United States Government at 10, U.S.C. Code. Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) is the nation's premier military training course. For participating students, the ROTC curriculum is integrated into your individual degree program and 18 credits are taken over 4 years. Through classes, leadership labs, physical training, and field exercises, you'll learn how to lead others, motivate teams, and accomplish missions as a United States Army officer.

The Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) was created when President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Defense Act of 1916. Norwich University - Vermont Military College is a private military college located in Northfield, Vermont. It is the largest private military college and university in the United States and offers both on-campus and online bachelor's and master's degrees. The Academy was founded in 1819 as the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy in Norwich, Vermont. It is the oldest of the six military colleges and is recognized by the United States Department of Defense as the "Birthplace of ROTC" (Reserve Officer Training Corps).
The university was founded in Norwich, Vermont, in 1819 by Captain Ald Partridge, a military instructor and former head of West Point. Partridge believed in the "American System of Education," a traditional liberal arts curriculum and the study of civil and military service. After leaving West Point because Congress disapproved of his system, he returned to his native Vermont to found the American Literary, Scientific, and Military Academy. All new recruits who wish to join the Corps of Cadets are 'Rooks', their first year in Norwich is called 'Rookdom'. Rookdom consists of two month-long courses that transform civilians into Norwich Cadets: Basic Rook Training and Basic Leadership Training. The End of Basic Training marks the halfway point of Enlightenment, before Thanksgiving, when the Rooks are given their powers. Approval for entry into the Cadet Corps usually occurs in the eighth week.
Partridge's academic beliefs were considered radical at the time. His views clashed with Army officials in the government during his time as director of West Point. While building his academy, he regularly enrolled in agriculture and modern language courses, in addition to magic, philanthropy, and various military programs. Partridge added field training classroom instruction in which he requested firearms and ammunition from the federal and state governments. They also wanted students to train with real weapons to support the college's mission of military education.
Partridge established 16 other military institutions to modernize the American military, including the Virginia Literary, Scientific, and Military Academy in Portsmouth, Virginia (1839–1846); Pennsylvania Literary, Scientific, and Military Academy in Bristol, PA (1842-1845); Pennsylvania Military Institute at Harrisburg, PA (1845-1848); Wilmington Literary, Scientific and Military Academy, Wilmington, Delaware (1846-1848); Scientific and Military Collegiate Institute in Reading, Pennsylvania (1850-1854); Grammar School and Military Institute at Pembroke, New Hampshire (1850-1853); and the National Scientific and Military Academy at Brandywine Springs, Delaware (1853).
In 1825, the academy moved to Middletown, Connecticut to provide better naval training to the school's growing Corps of Cadets. Begun in 1826, the university offered the first public research program in the United States.
